Movement, Balance and Fluidity
A one day class with Andy Monaghan (@andy.monaghan)
Thursday 5th September 2024
10am - 3pm
This one day workshop will be taught by Andy Monaghan - dancer, florist and grower. Andy brings garden led, movement infused designs to life, celebrating what’s in season and using flowers and plants in all stages of life.
‘With a background in dance, I bring movement to my floral work, crafting a free and natural aesthetic inspired by the vibrant, changing seasons. For me, flowers and dance share so many qualities: movement and beauty, passion and physicality, joy and escapism, the power to evoke feeling, atmosphere and drama. I feel very lucky to have two creative careers that I can fuse together, and I love how each informs the other.’
The morning will start with coffee and homemade biscuits in the home of Annabel @thecontentedmole and a look round her cutting garden and greenhouse, where Andy will talk about choosing materials for an arrangement with a focus on shapes and imperfections that make home grown flowers so interesting to work with. Andy will demonstrate a bouquet in the style for which he has become known - a bouquet that has movement and takes its inspiration from the the materials selected. You will then make your own bouquet under his guidance, to take away at the end of the day.
After a delicious home cooked lunch, Andy will demonstrate an arrangement and there will be plenty of opportunity for Q and A and to chat about his career and how it is developing.
The day will end with afternoon tea.
Andy is a floral designer and artist, using ingredients he grows in his London garden and a new cutting garden he’s building in Hampshire.
After a decade of a successful career in dance, theatre and film, he found a passion for floral design and a new wave of creativity. Andy was selected as ‘one to watch’ by Country Living for 2024. He enjoys discovering the similarities between two careers within the arts, balancing them both and seeing how they can inform each other to move forwards.
